The Browning's
Sarg passes away 03/09/2009

Yesterday was a tough day for the Browning Family.  We buried our family dog, Sarg.  He was a great dog and a great friend.  In 2002, Tarah and I purchased our first home in Kentucky and like every good American family, we got a dog.  We decided to adopt a pet and that adoption was the beginning of another adoption journey that ended with us adopting Piper & Ethan from the Ukraine in 2006.

Some things about Sarg that I won't ever forget.
#1 - His lethargic and laid-back disposition.  He was a perfect fit to my personality.  Most days he just sat beside me in my recliner enjoying an evening with his family.
#2 - His scratching at the door.  Sarg was a smart dog.  He had a keen way of communicating.  The strangest communication was the whining he would do when he wanted to come inside.  It sounded like a injured little girl screaming.
#3 - My accomplice - Many times Sarg would ride with me in the car.  I'll never forget the night that we tolieted Dr. Rainer's house with Sarg tagging along.
#4 - Cuddling - I am not a touchy-feelly kind of guy but for some reason Sarg was a different story.  He would let you do anything to him.  I am sure you saw his trick when I would ask him a question and he would raise his hand, right?

Do me a favor, if you remember something about Ol' Sarg, write a comment on this blog.  I think it will be healing for our family.

My first Sarg memory was the first time I came over to y'all's house and Tarah said, "You want him?!" (I think he was peeing on Jed's stuff or something right after you moved into the new house, but that's probably not a GOOD memory, so moving along ...)

My most recent was that one time I had to bring something by your house after not having been there for several months. I wasn't sure I was at the right house, and then to top it all off, you sent that guy (Josh?) to the door to trick me. I was all panic-stricken, but then Sarg came out to help me out. At least there was one friendly, familiar face to greet me! :-P

I remember tossing him popcorn and then the subsequent popcorny farts.

Sorry to hear the news. The raising paw trick brings back great memories.

My best is not long ago, watching Sarg finesse popcorn from Jed, Eli and Rachel. Even after all the popcorn that hit the floor - there was no vacuuming necessary.

I don't even remember where we were going but it was Me, Laura, Phil, Tarah, You, and Sarg in the red blazer. We were going through the McDonald's drive-thru and you leaned back and made it look like Sarg was driving. We all thought it was SO funny, but the lady at the drive-thru window didn't at all. BUT, I am laughing out loud thinking about it now :)

I remeber Sarge had the softest ears and I remember the time that tiny little dog leaped our baby gate. He had some ups! I also remember finding him on the kitchen table and he hadn't even moved the table cloth. He had skills!! I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Sarg brings back a lot of good memories...Will, you would always make him do strange and silly things....the raising his hand was funny but so was making him fly with his ears.....Sarg was a great dog and always enjoyed being around people and in Will's chair.....sorry for the loss but we still have a lot of great memories.

Sarge, one the greatest dogs! Loyalty ran through Sarg's blood in how much he loved you guys and being around you.

I think one my first favorite memories would be, if I had been out with you somewhere and we'd come back to your house or stop by and you would say "Sargers, Sargers Sarges" in that way that would get him all excited by repeating his name and he'd do that tail wag and dance.

Another was one night that Tarah had said "enough with the popcorn" and you let my keep popping it to Sarge when Tarah would leave the room, made Sarg so happy and was a lot of fun. ( Sorry Tarah - can't be upset at Will or me now :) ).

My Favorite would be of him jumping into your lap Will on the recliner and you would just pet on him and both both of you smiling.

So sorry to hear, I know he brought you a lot of joy and you did the same for him.

I will never forget Suzanne and I's first night house-sitting and we got ready to go to bed. Then all of a sudden I said, " Suzanne, do you feel like a man is in the bed with us." None manlier than Sarg himself. Him and his snoring.

Through the weeks at the Brownings I made many fun memories with Sarg. Suzanne would have him running and shaking with excitement. I just loved cuddling up with the most awesome dog in the world.
